I actually think that link building is an excellent for participating in social media. This is so long as the company or person participating has a real commitment and understand the time and commitment involved. I think the even more disappointing scenario comes when people expect to increase conversions as a result of their participation in social media.

Social media requires time and patience. If you are not engaging interaction between other than you are just not doing it correctly or enough. You have to take a step and figure out what your goals are as well before you start.

Bottom line. If your doing Social Media for links and posting your own material in an attempt to do it, those links really aren’t going to be worth any more than directory listings which are easy to come by. It’s too much work for a low value link…

I’ve never done it, but it appears the only people who really have success with utilizing social media content to improve SEO rankings are just bribing other people with high value sites for a text link.
