So, Mr. "Required" - It seems you wandered into this blog by mistake. Our subjects are pretty much all about how to promote businesses using various techniques and high-traffic websites/services. It's not about how to conform to a standard of English that existed in the early part of the latter century.

If you reviewed what I suggested, you'd understand that I recommended that businesses could derive some promotional benefit by contributing to the development of Wikipedia. For instance, adding photos to articles in need of them. This is actually a good thing, because it provides them with a reason - an "incentive", if you will - to provide something of value to the community.

But, you lack the backbone to actually reveal your identity while misguidedly attempting to lambast me for language? Sorry, but you failed pretty miserably on that score.

Use of the word "incent" is acknowledged by numerous American dictionaries at this point -- perhaps a detail you've missed since I see by your "locution" as well as your IP address that you appear to be Australian. You should get off your high-horse and update your grammar/vocabulary, because trying to edit away perfectly acceptable writing, as well as my use of colloquial phrases, is simply pointless snobbery not founded in realistic nor even common rules followed by most editors in this century.

I think you might be surprised to find that most grammarians in this day and age will tell you that it's perfectly acceptable to begin a sentence with a conjunction such as "but". And, there's absolutely nothing "bloglish" about that. :-b

Was up to me, I'd ban you from Wikipedia just for using the ghastly word 'incented', and that idiot locution 'make the cut', and for starting a sentence with 'But', and for absurdities like 'a good grasp'. This on top of encouraging small businesses to use Wiki for hustling a buck! I spend hours hacking greedy local shopkeeper drivel, so often badly written, out of factual Wikipedia articles about towns and villages.

Please don't encourage it.

And please learn to write English, not bloglish.

Gregory, it appears that you yourself are well-known for being banned from Wikipedia:

As such, I'm not convinced your background history should be all that reassuring to those seeking advice about Wikipedia.

Gregory, you're right - there is a policy against using "promotional" usernames.

However, I believe there's some leeway applied when using Wikimedia Commons account to donate photos to Wikimedia Commons, and there's also instances where this is not disallowed, such as cases where photographer's names ARE their business names.

It seems that organization names are sometimes also allowed.

You say, "If you’re setting up your User page in part to promote your business, I suggest that you consider naming it beneficially with your business name..."

That's actually one of the quickest ways to get your User account banned on Wikipedia.

Looks like I need to hurry up and finish my upcoming e-book, "Your Business and Wikipedia".
